Two-Day Writing Retreat

July 23 @ 9:30 am July 24 @ 5:00 pm

Two-Day Writing Retreat at Didsbury Parsonage Trust with a focus on practice, creative methods, & communities

This two-day summer retreat is for researchers who work with creative methods and practice, or who are engaged in research with communities and members of the public. This is an opportunity to come together and reflect on writing-in-progress and the particular challenges you might be facing in making the connection between practice, data collection, community work, and your writing. The two days will involve a combination of free writing time (for which you should bring work in progress), and some structured exercises and open discussion that will see us thinking collaboratively about writing and research practice.

Please get in touch with Fran Brooks if you would like to reserve a space. In your email please include some details about what you would like to work on during the retreat, and how it relates to the focus of your research more broadly. Please also indicate what stage/year of your PhD you are currently in.

Priority will be given in the first instance to people who can attend both days, but please do get in touch if you would like to come but can only make one of the days so that we can register your interest.

A full programme is still being put together, and we are looking for researchers who might be interested in leading an exercise as part of the retreat. If this appeals, please indicate this in your email too.

We’ve booked out the ‘Red Room’ and the ‘Terracotta Room’ in the Parsonage Trust, and you can find out more about the venue here. The building has beautiful public gardens, it is close to Fletcher Moss park, and is an easy bus or tram ride away from central Manchester.
