Research & Innovation Conference Fund
The Manchester Metropolitan University Doctoral Services provides funding to support doctoral students with the costs of attending a conference related to their research activities.
Who is eligible?
All doctoral students are eligible to apply for an award except for those:
- who are currently on interruption from their studies (or will be at the time of receiving the award for the event/activity applied for),
- whose application is for an event or activity that will take place after the submission of the thesis,
- who already receive an adequate amount for research activities as part of their funding,
- who are also staff members and are therefore eligible to apply to the staff development fund for the activity.
Please note that funding is not available for internal conferences at Manchester Met.
How much is available?
One award to a maximum of £500 can be made from the RICF per academic year, although you can reapply within the same academic year if your previous application(s) was/were unsuccessful. Funding is also dependent on the amount remaining in the fund for that academic year.
How can I apply?
You may apply for funding for events that are prospective or retrospective, as long as the dates fall within the current academic year (1 August – 31 July). You will need to complete and submit this application form by the end of the current academic year, having read these additional notes and guidance <https://moodle.mmu.ac.uk/pluginfile.php/7878175/mod_resource/content/1/Financial%20Support%20Guidance%202024-25.pdf>
Please note that the following must be uploaded to this form to accompany your application or your application may not be considered:
- for prospective events: a proposed budget breakdown and be accompanied by evidence (e.g., screenshots, files, or quotes) of those expected costs. Please note that links are not acceptable as evidence.
- for retrospective events: receipts/booking confirmations that evidence the expenses.
- a supporting statement from your Principal Supervisor.
If you have any questions after reading these additional notes and guidance, please contact doctoralfunding@mmu.ac.uk
