PhD Led Seminar: 5.9

March 6 @ 1:00 am 2:00 am

This is a series of informal seminars led by and for Arts & Humanities doctoral students. Each seminar is presented by a different PhD researcher and involves plenty of interactive discussion. This is a friendly, supportive space in which we develop critical research skills and build community.

When and where: Thursday 6th March 2025 from 1-2 pm in Grosvenor East room 206 and on Teams, with optional extension until 2.30pm for in-person attendees. Tea, coffee, juice and snacks are provided.

Presenter: Ogechukwu (Oge) Okeke. Oge has a background in public health and health promotion (MSc) and is currently a PhD student at Manchester Fashion Institute, MMU. Her PhD research unboxes the narrative that reusing clothing is all about solving environmental problems. In the quest to solve these problems, donated second-hand clothing from Western countries are exported to developing countries like Nigeria, which has led to significant environmental challenges and loss of capital.

Format/topic: Oge will begin with a brief introduction of her PhD research, followed by Q&A and open discussion forum. The session aims to open up platforms for discussion around the question “Why do fashion waste crises exists?”.

Preparation: There is no pre-reading for this session.

If you would like to attend: Email Loretta at 21441661@stu.mmu.ac.uk to say whether you would like to attend online or in person, and if you have any dietary requirements (all snacks are vegetarian).
