Seminar 6.1: Please Mind The Gap: Entanglement of poetry, ceramics and textiles
May 22 @ 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm

When & where: Thursday 22nd May 2025 from 1-2 pm in Grosvenor East room 206 and on Teams, with optional extension until 2.30pm for in-person attendees. Tea, coffee, juice and snacks provided.
Presenter: LOkesh Ghai. LOkesh is a 1st year Fashion, practice-based PhD candidate. He is investigating the intersection of queerness, craft and activism, using shoes as a vehicle for research. His research is funded by the NWCDTP, and he undertakes fieldwork in India and the UK.
Format/topic: Through a visual presentation LOkesh will reflect on a research-based artistic practice and the ability of things to become alive in the ‘flow’ of life. The project has layers of entanglement that include queer lens, poetry, ceramics, dress, clothing, textiles, maps and a childhood memory; while moving in and out of museums in London. Participants will be encouraged to ponder the combination of things that bring ‘flow’ to a thing they move with during their ongoing research.
Preparation: There is no preparation necessary for this session. Interested attendees are highly encouraged to read Ingold, T. (2010) Bringing things back to life: Creative entanglements in a world of materials.
If you would like to attend: Email Loretta at 21441661@stu.mmu.ac.uk to say whether you would like to attend online or in person, and if you have any dietary requirements (all snacks are vegetarian).
