Seminar 6.3: Sophie Scott

June 19 @ 1:00 pm 2:00 pm

Grosvenor East room 2.06 and on Teams, with optional extension until 2.30 pm for in-person attendees.

Tea, coffee, juice and snacks provided.

Presenter: Sophie Scott. Sophie is in her 2nd year of a practice-based PhD. The research is investigating how pre-consumer fabric waste solutions can be more aligned to real world challenges, faced by fashion micro-businesses.

Format/topic: Sophie will lead this session with a brief overview of her research, highlighting specific low waste pattern cutting methods that have informed her practice to date. Following this, she would like to trial two short activities on garment lay planning, before opening to discussion. The activities will be audio-recorded for the purpose of testing sound quality, but participation is voluntary.

Preparation: All equipment will be provided and if you’re joining online, there will be a digital version of the task made available. There is no pre-reading for this session, though if interested, Carrico & Kim (2013) introduce and discuss four main zero waste garment methods.

Email Loretta to say whether you would like to attend online or in person, and if you have any dietary requirements (all snacks are vegetarian).

Please note: parts of this seminar will be recorded, and we therefore have a Participant Information Sheet for review and Consent Form to complete, in line with MMU ethics approval. Those who do not wish to participate in the recording are still very welcome to attend, but advance booking is essential.
